Ride Like A Motor Cop - New Course Offering
Published: Thursday, August 05 2010 - Vermont Motorcycle News Archive
Motorcycle police officers use slow speed maneuvering and controlled riding daily to provide escorts, quickly change direction on city streets and control crowds. Their slow speed, controlled riding on large full dress cruisers is graceful and requires skill and practice. The skills are based on good technique, which can be taught.
Brite-Strike Academy in Plymouth MA is teaching a new class, “Ride Like a Motor Cop”, to teach full-dress cruiser riders the techniques used by motorcycle police officers. The weekend-long class is scheduled for August 14-15, and weekends to be determine in September and October.
On the first day of class, you learn basic slow operations, proper stopping, emergency stopping, obstacle avoidance and controlled group riding. Day two begins with a review and additional skills practice and then has an open road practical that incorporates all new skills.
To participate, you need a full dress cruiser motorcycle with crash bars, long pants, boots, DOT approved helmet and gloves. Your motorcycle must be registered and inspected and you must have your full motorcycle license. You must also sign a liability waiver.
